Imperial Order of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker
The Imperial Order of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was established in 1929 by Emperor Kirill I in fulfillment of the intentions of Emperor Nicholas II, in memory of the First Great War of 1914-1918.
The Order was revived and its statutes revised by the Head of the Russian Imperial House H.I.H. Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna on August 4, 2001. The Order has three degrees. When conferring the Order of the highest degree, the insignia of lower degrees are not worn, except for insignia depicting swords.
On 14 December 2001, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation legalized the wearing of the order in Russia by military persons on active duty. The Order, which does not confer nobility, is only awarded to members of military forces.
